The Penny Black – The World’s First Postage Stamp.  Plate #IB JI with re-entries.  Quoting the accompanying Sismondo Certificate “The stamp is genuine, unused, with margins clear of the frameline on all four sides, and is free from faults or repairs at the time of examination.  The stamp is without gum, and shows no residuals or signs of having been cancelled.  The stamp was printed from Plate 1B, and shows the characteristic multiple re-entries in the four corner squares, in the letters of the word “POSTAGE”, and in the letters “ONE P”.  A very scarce variety, especially in unused condition.”.  Scott Catalogue value for a mint hinged example is $9000, Stanley Gibbons Catalogue value for mint hinged for black : £10,000.  With colour this deep, it  could be the intense black shade discussed in Gtanley Gibbons, Catalogue for intense black £15,000.
