CANADA #45 variety Prior to the move of the British-American Bank Note Co. printing plant to Ottawa, the Montreal plant burned down and from September 1888 until March 1889 Canadian stamps were printed at the Montreal Gazette. Although not all values have been confirmed as having been printed during the Gazette period, the best known is the rose carmine shade of the three cent. This is the only one to achieve catalogue status as Scott #41a (also Unitrade 41ai). The Gazette printings of the 5 cent, 6 cent, and 10 cent values have distinctive colours, paper and perforation measurement (12 by 12.15 or 12 by 12 1/4). This daily feature offers a very fine Gazette printing of the ten cent with a socked-on-the-nose Toronto Dec.10 1888 postmark. DF4 CDN $375 | ||
