GREAT BRITAIN JUBILEE
Queen Victoria's fiftieth anniversary on the throne was celebrated in many ways including a special issue of stamps. These are surface printed with fugitive inks and the higher values such as 9d, 10d, and one shilling usually have parcel or quite ugly postmarks. This stamp is reasonably well-centered with a delightful Widnes 1888 postmark. The colour is deep and rich but (and here's the key) it is a very little bit off from the true fresh colour as issued. With true colour we would expect to retail this stamp for nearly full Stanley Gibbons (£127 with premium or about CDN $270; and at auction it might achieve achieve an even higher price. We offer this quite respectable example for CDN $45 DF 20 CDN $45 | ||
