BYTOWN 1850

 

This daily feature has a letter written before Canada's first stamp was issued in 1851. It is a stampless folded cover to Bytown (now Ottawa) with light PERTH cds in red dated 1850 with neat "TOO LATE" handstamp in red and "4 1/2Õ manuscript cancel in black, with very fine strike of BYTOWN AUG 29 1850 backstamp cds in black. The letter is rated 4 1/2 pence collect in manuscript. Very fine.
