P.E.I RARE HANDSTAMP
Lehr type P105 used in 1865 to indicate double defiency of payment. This is only the second example recorded of the use of this hammer to indicate one shilling and six pence due. The other in 1864 was a short paid letter from England. There are also about four examples known 1851-1852 on S.F.L incoming to P.E.I from the U.K. This example is on a part folded letter from Barbados dated AP25 1865 and baring a one penny stamp. Unfortunately it is not a full letter and thus we will never know if there were additional stamps. Covers to or from P.E.I are mostly internal; between P.E.I and Atlantic Canada or between P.E.I and the U.K. Covers to/from the rest of Canada or the US are quite scarce to rare. Covers to any other destination are rare to very rare with probably less then a dozen to/from P.E.I and other destinations. Thus Barbados to P.E.I is probably unique. If this were a full cover my retail price would be well into the thousands of dollars. In my opinion this is still important enough to be exhibitable. DF34 CDN $395 | ||
